Everyone Can Help...July 2008 trip
to Haiti.
We are so thankful that the mission team Sudley sent to Haiti is
back home. Michael led a team of 8 people, (including Pastor
Dennis, Bart Miller and Dianne Miller) to Cap Haitian l ast week.
It was an amazing trip. Some of the highlights included fixing
a generator, toilet and computers at the Ford Orphanage. This
is an orphanage that had no running water when we first started
helping there in 2005. We installed a cistern, pump and water
drainage system at the orphanage in Madeline. Michael's dad,
who looks amazingly like his Haitian nickname "Papa Noel"
distributed toys to the kids at Madeline for a little Christmas
magic in July. In a community of Cap Haitian where clean water
is available at the top of a small mountain (about an hour hike up),
we finished an ongoing project that brought the water down into the
community. We distributed 3 solar cookers to the orphanages
which will help with the high cost of cooking food.
 We discovered another orphanage where sadly the situation was very
desperate and the 35 children had not eaten in 2 days. We
bought rice and pasta to feed the children and took over medicines
from the clinic. It is heartbreaking to see children starving
and while we try to focus on sustainable projects I think everyone
came away realizing that we need to feed the poor, sometimes just
directly. Already, several from Sudley have pledged to give
$90 for a 70lb bag of rice that will feed these kids for 3 to 4
days. I'm hoping that we can provide two bags of rice a week
for this orphanage which is reliant almost exclusively on the
impoverished community it resides in for donations of food.
Checks can be written to Sudley with "Haiti" in the memo are one way
you can help feed these children.
Sudley's budget for Haiti mission work was $4800 and the money was
well spent. There is so much more to do, so many more mouths
to feed, but for this year we are out of money. Michael is
planning on leading another trip in January and we could go again in
October if there was interest and cash to support the trip.
